When you get all excited about the new, rearranged theme tune! (which you do every bloody season since 2005 anyway) please don’t tell me in excited tones how it remains true to the one written by Ron Grainer.
The iconic DW theme was not written and realised by Ron Grainer. It was Delia Derbyshire. I know at the time beeb policy cockblocked his attempts to get her authored as co-composer when she took his two-tone melody and turned it into an haunting, instantly recognisable tune that has remained fundamentally unaltered for fifty fucking years, but policies have changed somewhat and you can stop doing it now.
