Welp

I was sitting there fine-tuning the vid settings on mah shiny new media player I built over my holiday  And as Avengers is the Blu-ray I have with the highest HFR settings, I used that.  And of course this necessitated sitting a couple inches from our gigantic hi-def screen to check phasing and such.

And some things I discovered:

1) In that marked first scene where Loki raises his head just after landing and is all evil grin - the contrast makes Hiddles’ eyes appear green.

2) The influence of the sceptre does not turn your eyes blue. Nope.  it crystalises the existing colour.

Renner’s eyes are blue-green - in the opening scenes they appear very blue (most likely due to contrasting shades) and then via SFX crystallise into a marked blue under the influence of the sceptre. This then stays throughout the film for continuity.   Skarsgard’s eyes on the other hand, are a very definite green - and thus they appear to be a crystallised green. They are not blue under the influence of the sceptre. They are GREEN.  (Dont’ believe me? Check those minty toothpaste eyes in clear daylight atop of Stark Tower)

So
1) Loki’s eyes were NOT blue OMG CONTROLLED and then green after getting hulk-smashed/Thor whumped. They appear green form the outset when he arrived via the tesseract.

2) Even if the combination of Hiddleston’s heterochromia iridum and lighting contrast make them appear blue in places - the sceptre gem does not turn all influenced eyes blueBlue eyes do not automatically mean mind control.

So I guess that kinda kills all the “poor Loki was controlled” theories.

When I had everybody on screen, you really saw an uglier side of all these guys, because they would not stop chatting. Giggle, giggle, giggle, chat chat chat. Literally the only time I raised my voice when we were filming was because these guys would NOT shut up and we had to roll - don’t get me wrong - you would see them standing next to each other going, “Is his costume cooler? Are his muscles bigger?” But every single one of them was rooting for the other.

Story of a Five Year Old Avenger

aka the story behind that pic of Hiddles with a kid on his shoulders

Every once in a while, we get presented with amazing stories of geekery that must be told.  During your daily travels around the Internet, you may have seen the picture on the right.  With all of the attention that The Avengers movie is receiving, seeing a picture of a young boy wielding a Captain America toy shield on the shoulders of Loki, played by Tom Hiddleston, is a very cool thing.

The image has reached a viral level of popularity, with people all over the country sharing it on Twitter, Facebook, and every other form of social media imaginable. While the Internet loved the picture, a very simple question started to arise: “Who is the kid on Loki’s shoulders?”

Some had speculated that it was the son of Mark Ruffalo, who portrayed Bruce Banner (aka The Hulk) in the film.  Others thought it might be the son of one of the crew members who worked on the film.  Conspiracy theories started to form, with some believing that Loki might have gone back in time and captured Captain America as a child.

The truth of it all?  The boy on Loki’s shoulders is none other than Edison, son of our good friend Erin, who directs the web series, CASTERS. The story of how Edison got his picture taken with Tom Hiddleston is a great case of “right place, right time” that Erin was kind enough to write about for us.
